The Bitcointalk Summaries are over: we have a forum!

Seventy days ago I started posting the Bticointalk Summaries, because I saw there was a desperate need to keep track of what was happening in the Nxt Community. At that point, there was still a huge resistance against moving out of our cozy corner in the bitcointalk forums.

However, during the last two weeks, more and more people were realising that we have outgrown that particular format and that in order to grow and not go completely crazy, we needed a different place.

So, now we are going just gently crazy in our new forums, which can be found at nxtforum.org, which have been set up by wesleyh and are staffed by dedicated nxters, including yours truly. The domain has been generously donated by farl4bit.

Our developers have largely made the move to this new forums, too, and so it should be much easier to find what you are looking for.

As far as the Bitcointalk Summaries go, my job is done!

I hope you all have found use in them and that they have helped keep order amidst the chaos that can be part of a decentralised community and that they have contributed to the more timely development of Nxt in some way.

I am currently involved in many, many more Nxt developments than I could ever have forseen 70 days ago, so I am sure we will see each other again. This blog will of course still stay, but I will need to see what direction it will take. For the next few days, I think I will take a bit of a rest, though!

I hope to see you all on nxtforum.org!

Summaries going to a two-day format

At the moment the BCT thread is enormously active, but mainly with discussions.

Today was a hectic day in which some frustration with the model of communication that BCNext has chosen was aired and the reactions of the community to that. Suffice to say that it was a stormy day! However, I have committed to report only practical things like applications being released, because I too have my opinions and do not want to use this blog as a platform to push that opinion. I want this site to be as unbiased as possible, and so even summarising the discussion for me is a no-no.

Due to the amount of discussion there is less “tangible” stuff to report, or just the other way around. Maybe we all just have too much time on our hands! Who knows? For now I have decided to switch temporarily to a two-day format for the summaries, so I can present a filled list to you.

It also gives me time to develop some other ideas I have to either make this site into something different, or to work with some other people to create something else for Nxt.

So, until tomorrow, for the Nxt Summary!

Bitcointalk Summary 26-02-2014

NRS Client Update 0.8.3 (stable)

Math, concepts and discussions

  • Today CIYAM Open ran a lot of simulations on the Nxt forging process to try and see if Nxt is as safe as it claims to be. This was done after a two day discussion on how the forging process works and could work. User mthcl helped with the mathematical proof of these concepts. I freely admit this frequently goes over my head, but it is vital work and I am happy that so many talented people are chipping in to actually come up with models. Lots of hours go into this, so if you are feeling generous, donate them some Nxt or come into the thread to say “Thank you!”
  • An idea for Nxt insurance has been proposed.
  • Pouncer asks for a Proof of Existence development so Companies can register themselves on the blockchain.
  • A discussion about escrow services in Automatic Transactions.

Clients

  • Version 0.3.4 of the Nxs client has been released.

Miscellanious

  • User lyynx wants to start a Nxt Scholarship fund.
  • klee donated a million NXT to the Brain Preservation Foundation. You can read the press release here.

Bitcointalk Summary 25-02-2014

I have a bit of a problem summarising today, as the day was again mostly taken up with the discussion about forging and the rewards it should or shouldn’t bring. This is not a bad thing, as forging and Transparent Mining are what makes Nxt unique and the discussion is thus a fundamental one. However, the discussion is so deep and far-reaching, I cannot in good conscience summarise it. For those who are really interested, the only way is to go in there and read and then think and read some more. The discussion is vital for how we decide (and yes, it’s WE who get to decide this!) how Nxt protects and incentivises its network and nodes.

However, apart from this discussion, a few other things have happened:

Asset Exchange

  • At the moment, another round of Asset Exchange tests is being run. If you want to participate, jump into the thread and ask for Testcoins. Most current clients will work on the Testnet. Find them at nxtclient.org.

Clients

  • wesleyh’s client now is available for download. This downloadable version should still be considered to be in beta-stage.

Clients

Community Addons

Concepts and discussions

  • Both of these days (starting at page 1897) have been filled with an in-depth discussion about the fees, Transparent Mining and forging. It’s much too complicated to summarise, but good reading if you want to see how people are discussing this critical feature of Nxt.
  • The Automated Transactions  (AT) dev group has come up with some new idea: Crowdfunding via Nxt.
  • You can now donate to the AT group.
  • A proposal for a Nxt microcredit system.

Marketing

  • SWARM for adding Nxt to various exchanges. Please participate if you haven’t already!
  • We still need around 32 registrations for being added to Bittrex. Please do so!
  • You can see a new video about the Greenness of Nxt here.
  • We are SWARMING to get merchants on coinpayments.net to add Nxt.

Charity

  • Here is a proposal and site for a new format for charities being funded in Nxt.
  • The Songs of Love charity now stands at 43953 Nxt. You can still donate on Nxt account 4636321498642303120. All your donations till we reach 100,000 Nxt will be doubled. This donation closes on the 28th of February.

Miscellanious

  • Nxt is now three months old!
  • klee has made a mystery donation of 2,500,000 Nxt. More news to follow.
  • Account 7017504655955743955 has been giving out a lot of donations on 23 February. Thank you very much!
  • Jean Luc (developer) wonders if it would be a good idea to release the source code ahead of time on the 1st of March.

Funding committees

  • On the first of March the voting for the committee members will start. You can find their statements here. If you want to run for election, please make your statement in that thread.
